What type of boots to wear in Toronto next week?

I am going to visit my sister in Toronto and am wondering what type of boots should I buy to wear. We are just doing casual stuff. I'm asking as I live in Western Australia and am used to wearing sandals, flip flops and maybe leather boots in winter. I remember when my sister came to Perth and the snow destroyed the leather on her boots.

Halleuia! The snow is finally melting here. The weather forecast is for approx. 5-12 degrees with some rain. You won't need winter boots, but warm and dry footwear is a must.. no sandals, but runners or hiking boots, leather boots, etc.
Reply:well if you want to wear leather and your worried about the rain that is falling these days then avoid it. Being in Toronto your bound to encounter lots of potholes=puddles so I would recommend to bring a couple of pairs of runners and thick socks, if you arrive here in a pair a rain boots and then go to a cheap shot like transit or spirit then you'll definitely have no worries.

Reply:The snow is melting now and hopefully we won't get anymore. However, it is still chilly with rain, so you should be fine with a pair of running shoes or leather walking shoes.
